The Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital is a dental college steeped in tradition and situated in Maduravoyal, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and was set up in the year 1983. It is also a constituent college recognised by the Dental Council of India (DCI) and provides various bachelor’s and master’s degrees in dental sciences.
The Estrella Counterpart has a total number of 104 faculty members and extends education service to 591 students in different fields of specialisation. The institute has 11 courses and 3 degrees to provide a full course in dentistry. The college has a multivariate student population, with 39% of students from other states and 1% of international students at the college, which makes college learning diverse.
The campus of Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital provides students with ample of necessary amenities and facilities required both in their academics as well as in their extracurricular curriculum. The campus also has a health centre with basic first aid amenities, a library stocked, and defiant technology infrastructure.
Recreation and fitness amenities include a football pitch, basketball and tennis courts, and a gym with a trainer to supervise the students. This 400-seat air-conditioned dining hall has been used to host college functions and other activities. The BDS is the largest programme offering, which takes 100 students per year. The college also offers different MDS programmes , including oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics , periodontology, conservative dentistry and endodontics, and many more. All the programmes offered are full-time; BDS is 5 years of full-time study, and the MDS programmes are 3 years of full-time study.
On average, the intake of students in the institute is 147 across all postgraduate courses. According to the data, the college had the enrolment of 591 students in the academic year 2022, out of which only 450 were enrolled in the undergraduate programme and the rest 141 in the postgraduate programme.
The admission of the students of Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital depends mostly on the national-level entrance tests. The BDS programme admission is done through the NEET as per the Supreme Court order/HT/UT realisation. Admissions in MDS are done through the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for MDS ( NEET MDS ).
The college takes part in the regular communal counselling organised by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
