The Department of Jute and Fibre Technology is popularly known as the Institute of Jute Technology, IJT Kolkata, a constituent college of the University of Calcutta. This premier institute was started in the year 1951 in Kolkata, West Bengal. This institute is well-known for its specific focal point towards jute and fibre technology education.

This institute has been approved by AICTE, New Delhi, to provide good quality technical education. IJT Kolkata has spread over a faculty strength of 8 members and offers 6 courses over 4 degree programs, diversifying in various specializations of the field of textile technology.
