Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology (SMKFIT) is a self financing engineering and technology institution located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and was established in the year 2001. Based on a 25 acres campus, SMKFIT is an affiliated college under AICTE and NAAC with accreditation in New Delhi.

The institute encompasses a total of 12 professional engineering programmes modeled into two types of degree namely undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Supported by a team of 104 competent faculty members, Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology has always laid its emphasis on delivering standard technical education facilities along with the development of various wheels of engineering streams.

SMKFIT has several facilities that advance learning as well as development of the students that attend the institute. The campus is equipped with sophisticated laboratories with instrumental facilities in different technical disciplines. An effective library is a researc centre where books, journals and other source of information is available to support academic and research activities.

The college has Wi-Fi in each and every possible place, including the hostels to cater the need of each and every student and faculty members on the move.

Promotion of Health and Physical Welfare is also one of the main objectives of SMKFIT which is equipped with world class sports amenities such as 400 meters athletic running track, cricket ground, football ground, volley-ball ground and court for basketball, athletic tennis court and many others.

For the students who live within the compound, there are different hostels for boys and girls, with adequate and comfortable accommodation facilities, modem facilities, secure and guarded 24/7. This is an Affiliated College of Anna University, Chennai. The programmes provided by SMKFIT ranges across the whole spectrum of engineering options to meet the interests of the student and the market.

The institute offers 7 BE programmes and 5 ME programmes making a total of 12 full-time programmes . The undergraduate programmes are Biomedical Engineering , Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science and Information Technology .

Accompanying postgraduate courses include VLSI Design , Computer Science & Engineering, Power Systems Engineering , and Thermal Engineering. The total number of approved intake for these courses is different, the intakes for some programmes are up to 60 and for some are 30 or 9 intakes for some specialisation courses.

For undergraduate programmes, the admission is done by taking into account the Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admission ( CEETA-PG ) conducted at the state level. The institute also looks at the marks secured in the qualifying examination that is 10+2 or its equivalent with weightage to Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

For postgraduate programmes, the admission criteria is usually the candidates’ scores in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) or a state or university conducted entrance examination. The scholarship options are available at SMKFIT to reward deserving students.
