Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Kancheepuram

MAPIMS, a medical college in Melmaruvathur, Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, was started in 2008. This affiliated college is officially accredited by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and includes various specialisations of medical degrees. MAPIMS maintains a total number of student enrolments of four hundred and fifty-eight and the faculty strength of one hundred and fifty-nine.

As a result of its specialisation, the institute offers 24 courses under 5 degrees in different medical disciplines. MAPIMS is an institution for both boys and girls, which allows it to accept students from any part of society. To this end, the institute boasts of having fully equipped facilities to supplement the teaching and learning activities of the students.

The campus consists of well-endowed boys and girls hostel accommodations to allow outstation students to have a comfortable place to stay. The medical needs of the MAPIMS community are served by a health centre with basic first aid stations available to the students.

This gives it a central library covering an area of 2400 sq m, two floors holding a collection of 12923 books, 789 CD/DVDs, and it subscribes to one hundred national and international journals annually. It also offers access to the journal server and is a member of DEL NET and MALA. To achieve good health of the body, the college provides sporting amenities to all its learners.

The IT facilities are very good to help implement innovative pedagogy. Additional amenities of the campus include a cafeteria, auditorium, and separate sophisticated laboratories for all the departments. MAPIMS provides all levels of medical courses that include undergraduate, postgraduate, and diploma courses. The largest programme, MBBS , has 150 seats for admission.

At the postgraduate level, the institute offers many specialisations, which include an MD in Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, Paediatrics, an MD /MS in Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, General Surgery, and many more. Besides, the college focuses on B. Sc.

in dialysis technology, critical care technology, and other allied health sciences, as well as diploma courses in various medical technicians. The primary way of enrolling at the MAPIMS institution is through national entrance exams. Thus, for the MBBS programme, the government conducts the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET UG), through which candidates have to qualify.

Admissions for postgraduate courses leading to the award of MD and MS are based on the National Eligibility and Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG).
