Government Polytechnic Jammu was established in the year 1960 for imparting Technical Education to the youth of the state, especially the Jammu Division. The Govt Polytechnic institution was started to meet the technical education requirements of young females and males. Government Polytechnic Jammu are recognised by the Jammu & Kashmir Government.
All diploma courses at Government Polytechnic Jammu are accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. AICTE is the central authority set up by the Government of India to grant approvals to technical institutions at various levels and to oversee their operations. Government Polytechnic Jammu is an affiliated college of the Jammu and Kashmir State Board of Technical Education Srinagar.
Government Polytechnic Jammu was initially started with three-year diploma courses.
At present, Diploma courses are offered by the Government Polytechnic Jammu, such as Information Technology, Civil Engineering , Mechanical Engineering, Travel and Tourism , Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering , Computer Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering , Architecture Assistantship, Medical Laboratory Technology , with a total sanctioned seat capacity of 370.
To support students financially, Govt Polytechnic Jammu provides scholarships through various schemes from both the central and state governments. Additionally, Govt Polytechnic Jammu features a Training & Placement cell that organises campus interviews for its diploma engineering students.
