Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Ferozepur

Genesis Institute of Dental Sciences and Research (GIDSR), started in 2005, is one of the reputed dental education institution located in Ferozepur, Punjab. Having received ‘B’ grade accreditation from the NAAC, GIDSR is an affiliated institute of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot. The institute located over 7 acres of land provides 8 courses in which BDS and many MDS specialisations are included.

GIDSR has a total student enrolment of 293 and 83 members of the faculty, hence the institute is privileged to have an ideal student-teacher ratio. The institute hosts the following learners; 61 being male while 193 belong to the female sex. This shows that the institute favours gender diversity in the training of dentists.

GIDSR offers extensive up-to-date facilities to facilitate the students’ over all and academic success. The facilities include air conditioned hostels and separate for the sexes with basics such as bathroom, TV and fridge in most rooms. The college has a large sized library that occupies an area of 15,000 sq.

ft, containing extensive range of textual and referring course books and scientific journals to support the students as well as the faculty and a digital library where the students’ have unrestricted access to high-speed internet connection.

The approach of the institute on the overall personality development is expressed in the availability of the sports facilities namely indoor and outdoor- football, badminton, basketball and volley ball, a gym included. Three programmes are provided at the institute which are undergraduate, postgraduate and internship programmes in dentistry.

The largest of these is the pioneering BDS programme that has one hundred seats and takes five years to complete. Among postgraduate degrees provided at GIDSR, a number of MDS are available, and each of them lasts three years.

These are Prosthodontics and Crown and Bridge, Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Paedodontics and Preventive Dentistry, Periodontology ; Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics; and the like. The MDS programmes usually accommodate 2-3 students per level to afford targeted learning at that higher level. Students need to write national level entrance examination tests in order to gain admission to GIDSR.

For BDS programme, candidates must come through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG).
