Dravidian University Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through a Legislature Act (No. 17 of 1997), with the initial support extended by the governments of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala.

The primary objective of Dravidian University Kuppam was to promote the development of Dravidian languages, literature and cultures, thus paving the way for cultural and emotional integration of all the regions that carry forward the ancient historical torch of the nation.
