Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur, was established in the year 1989 and remains one of the oldest and largest medical colleges in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It is a constituent college approved by the National Medical Commission and has 174 faculty members, offering a wide range of quality education in streams of Medical programmes, specifically 20 courses and 4 degree programs. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, established in 1996, is a constituent unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth , Pune—a Deemed-to-be University recognised under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College is built with numerous facilities, thereby providing an excellent learning atmosphere and a healthy ambience for the all-round development of students.

Inside the campus, there are separate boys' and girls' hostels that provide comfortable accommodation to students who come from out of town.
