Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam is affiliated under Bharathiar University which was found in the year 1987. This prestigious school occupies 10. 5 acres of land and aims at growth, development and recognition of talent in Arts. Affiliated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the college explores a variety of courses that aim at fulfilling the dreams of many artists, musicians and dancers.

Taking total strength of 140 students and faculty of 28 teachers Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam offer a specialty and closeness of a small college. At present, the college provides four special programmes which comprise three university degrees for undergraduates as well as one diploma course all of which are oriented to improve certain kinds of artistry.

In order to accommodate the different styles of the students, Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam has numerous infrastructural facilities. The music and fine arts library, in particular reference and research centre, has a resource centre containing books, periodicals, journals and all forms of multimedia on music, dance and visual arts.

To support practical sessions, the institution has modern laboratory facilities that range from Graphic Lab, Photography Lab and Textile Design Lab. Average equipment in these labs include graphic etching machines, weaving equipment and photography apparatus. Technological development is also highly valued in the college, 18 systems are connected to the local network, and 2 to the wide network.

For the easy and convenient transport facility for students, the college provides local transport facility also. There is a canteen for staff and students. Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam has a total of four courses and all of these courses are only on full time basis.

These are three under graduate programmes: the Bachelor of Visual Arts (BVA), the Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance (BPA Dance) and the Bachelor of Performing Arts in Music (BPA Music) each taking four years. In addition, the college offers a three year Diploma in Thavil & Nadaswaram which proves its convention in carrying forward the tradition.

The total admission capacity for all courses is 140 while that of the BVA programme is 30. This is important in view of individuals’ ability to concentrate and focus on each student attending one or the other of the specialised artistic programmes. The admission process in Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam is solely based on entrance tests in order to select talented children.

For the undergraduate programmes (BVA, BPA Dance ,and BPA Music), there is competition since admission is determined by an institution called Aptitude Test. This test will allow the college to evaluate the creativity quotient and skills of intending students. Also, the college considers CUET UG exam scores which conform with admission norms of the country for undergraduate programmes.
